You’re Not Ugly. It’s Just All Those Zoom Calls In Fluorescent Lighting.

I’ll be honest. All of these Zoom calls and FaceTime conversations have been throwing me for a loop. I totally agree with Queen Mariah Carey’s rule of not being photographed or filmed in fluorescent lighting. Unfortunately, living in a small NYC apartment doesn’t always offer the best light. Who am I kidding? It never offers the best light. My view is a brick building behind another brick building blocking all the Vitamin D. So it’s no wonder, I sometimes feel like I look like a troll that just appeared from living under a bridge in these Zoom calls.  Overall, I have been less self-conscious because honestly who gives a damn. It’s a pandemic. I have dark circles under my eyes and dark spots on my cheeks & neck which I have grown to accept. I don’t know about you but my skin has never been “perfect.” I have breakouts but still, work on maintaining healthy skin. Wearing a face mask, staring at phones and computer screens can affect our skin. This has caused me to introduce new products to my skincare routine which have helped.

SKIN BACKGROUND:

I have combination skin and still have hormonal breakouts. I do not have cystic acne so this routine may not work for you if you do. Check out other skincare products on this site that address cystic acne and other skin conditions such as eczema.

DAYTIME ROUTINE:

Peach & Lily Cleanse: I just introduced this cleanser getting rid of my old one. So far, it’s not harsh and has done wonders for my skin.

Peach & Lily’s Pore Toner is EVERYTHING! To be honest, I never really understood the point of toner because I didn’t notice a difference. Not the case with this toner. My skin appears brighter and my dark spots are not as noticeable.  I have also noticed it has helped calm breakouts related to wearing a mask.

Cocokind’s SPF Sunscreen lotion is a dream which I apply in the morning. This sunscreen also helps to protect from blue light.

Cocokind’s Eye Cream is also a product I am getting used to. So far I really like it and I hope with continued use it will help calm those dark circles. I also just need to focus on getting better sleep.

NIGHTTIME ROUTINE:

I use the exact same products but instead of using Cocokind’s SPF Sunscreen I use Embroyolisse Lait Creme Concentre.

MAKEUP:

Now don’t get me wrong, I still love makeup and still wear it just not as much. I have always loved a natural look and use makeup as an accent. I don’t like makeup that looks caked on and want it to look like skin. I’ll save my make up routine for another day.

Besides using these products I make sure to drink plenty of water, avoid food with high fructose corn syrup and take elderberry which has helped.
